Dr. Spencer Lalonde named the 2017 Dr. John D. Brown Memorial Resident Award recipient

Established by the family of the late Dr. John Brown in 2012, this award recognizes a postgraduate trainee in any area of medicine who displays excellence in patient-centred care and reflects the values and practices of Dr. John Brown, who always put his patients first.

While Dr. Lalonde is early in his career, he continues to make lasting impressions on his patients, members of the health care teams, his fellow residents and his supervisors. Describing him as an engaged and bright young physician, his nominators spoke to his empathy, clinical sensibility on-call, diligence to patient safety issues and the respect and understanding he shows to each individual he encounters.

But what stands out the most about Dr. Lalonde are the extras he offers patients, families and coworkers. As one nomination letter shared, “To patients and families he consistently offers time, information, reassurance and comfort. To the nursing staff, he offers timely support and an appreciation of their expertise. To his teammates, Spencer provides an offer of help and his infectious smile, regardless of circumstances.”

Dr. Lalonde will receive his award at the School’s Awards of Excellence Dinner on May 24.
