Congratulations to Dr. Michael Pariser, who is the first resident in Canada to complete a residency in Pain Medicine. Dr. Pariser was honoured at the inaugural Pain Medicine Resident Farewell Dinner, which took place on January 4. Read the full article.

Dr. Richard McLachlan, a professor in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, received the prestigious Canadian League Against Epilepsy’s (CLAE) 2015 Wilder Penfield Award award for his outstanding lifetime clinical and research contributions in epilepsy. Congratulations to Louisa Salemi, PhD Candidate, for obtaining a CIHR Travel Award to attend the American Association for Cancer Research 2016 Annual Meeting.

Ramina Adam and Jason Chan, PhD Candidates, recently had a commentary, entitled Insight into motor control and motor impairment from stroke and beta oscillations, published in the Journal of Neurophysiology.

Researchers at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry recently received funding from ALS Canada. Congratulations to Dr. Michael J. Strong, who received funding as part of collaborative multi-university research teams, worth $2.9 million over four years. Click here to read more about his project.

  • Victoria Roach, PhD Candidate, for her recent publication entitled, “The eye of the beholder: Can patterns in eye movement reveal aptitudes for spatial reasoning?” published in Anatomical Sciences Education.
  • Stefanie Attardi, PhD’15, for her recent publication entitled, “Mixed methods student evaluation of an online systemic human anatomy course with laboratory” published in Anatomical Sciences Education.
  • Pinki Nandi, PhD, postdoctoral fellow, for her recent publication entitled, “Restraint of Trophoblast Invasion of the Uterus by Decorin: Role in Pre-eclampsia” published in American Journal of Reproductive Immunology.

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics would like to offer congratulations to:

  • Harpreet Chahal, who recently defended his MSc thesis and had an article entitled “Aerobic Fitness and Risk of Ventricular Arrhythmia Following Physical Exertion” published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology. He is supervised by Drs. Mark Speechley and Lorne Gula, who are also co-authors on the publication.

The Department of Neuroscience would like to offer congratulations to:

  • Nahal Farhani, who has completed her MSc in Neuroscience. Drs. Mandar Jog and Raj Rajakumar are her supervisors. The title of her thesis is “Serotonergic System and Gait: Dorsal Raphe Nucleus as a Control System for Gait”
  • Scott MacDonald, PhD Candidate, who was recently published in Attention, Perception & Pscyhophysics for his study entitled, “Impact of semantic similarity in novel associations: direct and indirect routes to action”. He has another recent study accepted in Experimental Brain Research entitled, “Priming tool actions: Are real objects more effective primes than pictures?”
  • Olivia Samotus, MSc Candidate, was recently published in Tremor and Other Hyperkinetic Movements for her study entitled, “Effective Management of Upper Limb Parkinsonian Tremor by IncobotulinumtoxinA Injections Using Sensor-based Biomechanical Patterns"

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory of Medicine would like to offer congratulations to:

  • Cecilia Kwok, who has completed her MSc in Pathology. Drs. Anthony Jevnikar and Zhuxu Zhang are her supervisors. The title of Cecilia's thesis is "CD4+ T‑cell Mediated Microvascular Endothelial Cell Death and Chronic Cardiac Allograft Rejection Involves Necroptosis”
  • Dr. Muriel Brackstone who has completed her PhD in Pathology. Dr. Ann Chambers is Muriel’s PhD supervisor. The title of Muriel's thesis is "Phase II Clinical Trial of Concurrent Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy with Radiotherapy in Locally Advanced Breast Cancer”
