Busting a Move Pays Off

The School's Breast for Success Team participated in the city's very first BustaMove for Breast Health event on April 6 and their efforts definitely paid off. Following nearly six months of personal and team fundraising activities, the 22 member team raised more than $31,000 for breast health care in this community. Team captain, Dinah Frank, administrative officer for the Department of Surgery gets full credit for motivating the team to bust its original goal of $22,000. Frank herself raised more than $6,000 and was recognized as the third highest fundraiser for the whole event.

The best news is that, thanks to an anonymous donor, every dollar raised for the event by the more than 450 participants was matched. In total the event brought in more than $1 million for breast health.

With fundraising complete, the team then ventured into a full day of workouts, presented by the Athletic Club. For six hours, the team along with all event participants, were challenged by a full scale, choreographed series of exercise classes. Nutritious snacks and a healthy lunch kept the team strong as they took on the six-hour challenge. The final exercise challenge was led by workout celebrity Richard Simmons.

The team believes their success belongs to the whole School. They are very grateful to Dean, Michael Strong for his support of this initiative, and the many, many people from across the School who made donations, purchased baked goods and bid on a wide variety of silent auction items.
