CNS Faculty and Staff to be Recognized at Awards of Excellence Dinner
Congratulations to Dr. Mel Boulton and Ms. Nicole Farrell on their 2018 Awards of Excellence through the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
Dr. Boulton receives the Schulich Excellence in Education Award for Undergraduate Education. Since joining the Department in 2008, Dr. Boulton has become heavily involved in Education at all levels. His dedication and contributions to Undergraduate Medical Education at Western, nationwide and internationally are admirable He has been an inspiration to many aspiring clinician educators/teachers, medical students, residents, fellows, and clerks who have all benefited from his tailored, goal oriented approach to teaching.
Dr. Boulton currently holds the position of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Director for Neurosurgery. He has truly made this role his own through his dedication to student learning and experience. While some would simply see this as an administrative role, Mel has taken it a step further by developing dedicated learning plans for each student which encourages them to set goals for themselves to help guide their education. Dr. Boulton also incorporates career preparation in his teaching, recognizing the fact that medical expertise alone does not make a good physician. He holds students accountable for their in-class conduct and encourages them to consider how to best communicate with patients.
Ms. Farrell receives the Innovation in Inspirational Leadership Award. She is recognized for her work during her time as the Education Coordinator for the Department as well as her time as the Manager of Administration and Finance, a role she has held since 2015.
Ms. Farrell consistently strives for excellence and creates a climate of continuous improvement. She exhibits integrity, fairness, and strong leadership which inspires her colleagues to produce their best work. She is a woman of high moral value who influences those around her through her intelligence and solid character.
The 2018 Awards of Excellence Dinner will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Great Hall, Somerville House. If you are interested in attending the Dinner, please contact Kelsey Stanczyk.
