Strategic Plan

CHI: from basic research to public policy resource in
immunity mediated health

CHI is the first Human and Translational Immunology centre in Canada that will integrate basic research, clinical research, public health research and related policy formulation to promote and preserve a healthy immune system to deal with infections, inflammation and immune-mediated diseases.

CHI will act as a catalyst by fostering and supporting interactions between researchers, health professionals, policy makers and partners from synergistic organizations or institutions. CHI will cover the full extent of the study of the factors that determine Immune Health (from genes and molecules to microbes to organisms to patients to society). The objective of CHI is to become a world-class leader in defining a healthy immune system. This will be achieved by acting as a transformative facilitator for the effective translation of fundamental knowledge to better health by building multi-disciplinary and multi-sector bridges and establishing broadly disseminated policy frameworks to be made available to decision makers in the public and private sectors.

Mission: The CHI is a multi-faculty, trans-departmental, multidisciplinary centre at The University of Western Ontario focused on improving human health through an integrated and comprehensive approach to knowledge generation in the field of immune system mediated health to address infections, Inflammation and Immune-mediated Diseases, and its translation into effective public policy strategies with local, national and global impact.

Vision: The CHI will act as a catalyst to accelerate basic, clinical and policy research to promote, protect and maintain a healthy immune system. The Centre will become a global resource for immunity based education and health policy development and implementation.
