Applying from university or college (transfer)

Students applying for admission from other universities or colleges:

The central Admissions Office is responsible for admitting students to Western and granting transfer credits.

After accepting their offer of admission, students admitted with transfer credits must consult with the Academic Advising Office for Science and Basic Medical Science students. The Academic Advising Office usually consults with the Basic Medical Science Undergraduate Education (BMSUE) Coordinators in the BMSUE Office to determine if transfer students can be considered for admission to the BMSc Program.

Transfer students are not admitted directly to the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (BMSc) Program. The Academic Advising Office and the BMSUE Office will determine whether transfer students can be considered for admission to the BMSc Program after completing at least one year of studies at Western. If students can be considered for admission after at least one year, then the two offices will determine which courses need to be taken, as well as the level of academic performance that must be achieved, for admission to the BMSc Program. Students will be informed about the evaluation of the courses taken at the prior institution and how they fit into the degree at Western.

The conditions for admission to Year 3 BMSc from the competitive pool must be satisfied in order for transfer students to be considered for admission (e.g., minimum marks of 60% are required in each of the courses listed in the Admission Requirements, a minimum average of 75% is required on the 2000-level courses listed in the Admission Requirements, etc.). Courses taken at both the institution from which students have transferred and at Western are taken into consideration when determining eligibility for the BMSc Program. Other factors, such as the existence of failed courses and the performance in additional modular courses, will be considered.

Registration in certain Honours Specialization modules might not be possible for transfer students who are subsequently admitted to the BMSc Program. Priority for admission to the Honours Specialization modules will be given to students who are admitted to Western as Medical Sciences First Entry students (directly from high school) and then satisfy the conditions for assured admission to Year 3 BMSc.

General information for students who are transferring to Western for Science and/or Basic Medical Science programs is available on the Academic Counselling website under New Students > Transfer Students.
