Celebrating Excellence in Teaching

Dr. Sarah McLean, the E-learning Coordinator in Basic Medical Sciences Undergraduate Education (BMSUE), was awarded Western's Award of Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, which is co-presented by The University Student’s Council and Western's Alumni Association, to recognize, celebrate and award excellence in undergraduate teaching.

In addition, Dr. McLean was Western's recipient of the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance Award for Teaching Excellence, which recognizes educators who excel at unlocking the potential of Ontario's young people. Selected by students as an example of teaching excellence, this award recognizes educators who engage their students in the process of learning and discovery by helping them to develop the thinking and learning skills that form the foundation of a high quality educational experience.

Dr. McLean is thrilled to pursue her passion for teaching and educational scholarship in the BMSUE program. Her primary responsibilities are the management, teaching and development of Medical Sciences courses in the IMS modules, where she employs techniques such as blended learning, online learning, demonstrations, discussions, and debates. Several of her teaching innovations have been published. Dr. McLean feels that passion, rapport with her students and mutual respect are the key components to build an impactful learning experience.
