McMaster-Western Resident Research Day was held on Friday, May 30th, and hosted by Western’s Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at St. Joseph’s Health Care London. The day’s schedule was full of fantastic presentations from McMaster and Western Anesthesia Residents, all of whom have our commendation for their innovative research! Needless to say, the research presented prompted some excellent discussion and direction for future initiatives.
Dr. Philip Jones, Associate Professor with the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, Western, delivered the guest lecture, “Openness” in Research.
This engaging lecture elicited a lively discussion, which complimented the overall learning objectives of the day. The McMaster and Western Anesthesia Residency Programs would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jones for his presentation!
The judges had their work cut out for them as there were many excellent presentations, but at the end of the day, three presentations identified for excellence.
First place was awarded to Ada Hindle, Suzanne Lambert (PGY4), and Susan Jo (PGY4) of McMaster University. – "Intrathecal Morphine for Spine Surgery”
In second place, Elaheh Adly and Padmali Jayatilaka of McMaster University – “Chronic Pain Following TKR and the Impact of Gabapentin”
Third place was awarded to Amanda Jasudavisius (PGY3) of Western University – “A Systematic Review of TTE and TEE in Non-Cardiac Surgery.”
In addition, thank-you to the Judges, Dr. Philip Jones (Western), Dr. James Paul (McMaster), and Dr. Tim Turkstra (Western), and to Dr. Rosemary Craen, who moderated the discussions and presentations. Furthermore, many thanks to Dr. Indu Singh (Western Anesthesia’s Resident Research Coordinator), Dr. Jeff Granton (Western Anesthesia Residency Program Director), and Ms. Linda Szabo (Western Anesthesia’s Residency Program Coordinator), for making this day possible!
