Every year, the Canadian Association of Medical Education (CAME) awards the Certificate of Merit to recognize and reward outstanding faculty who are committed to medical education in Canadian medical schools.

For 2018 one of the CAME Certificate of Merit award recipient’s is Department Assistant Professor, Dr. Jennifer Vergel de Dios. Since joining the Department, Dr. de Dios has been instrumental in the development and implementation of Competency By Design (CBD) for the Department’s postgraduate program (learn more here).

In collaboration with other partners in Canadian medicine, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) is embarking upon Competence by Design, a multi-year transformational change initiative in the system of specialty medical education. This project, focused on the learning continuum from the start of residency to retirement, is based on a competency model of education and assessment. Ultimately, it is designed to address societal health need and patient outcomes.

The Department would like to congratulate Dr. de Dios on this tremendous award that recognizes her many contributions and ongoing efforts for excellence in postgraduate education. We are looking forward to the awards ceremony, which will be held at the upcoming CAME Annual General Meeting, in accordance with the Canadian Conference on Medical Education (CCME), on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
