Announcement: Dr. Dervla Connaughton has been appointed as the inaugural Eugen Drewlo Chair in Kidney Research and Innovation
Dr. Dervla Connaughton has been appointed as the inaugural Eugen Drewlo Chair in Kidney Research and Innovation, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, effective January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2024.Dr. Connaughton received her Doctor of Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2008. She completed her specialist training in general internal medicine and nephrology at the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2016. In 2018, she obtained a Master of Science in epidemiology and statistics from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London. In 2019, she obtained her PhD in renal genetics from Harvard Medical School and Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.
Dr. Connaughton joined the Division of Nephrology within the Department of Medicine at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University in 2019, where she is currently an Assistant Professor. Prior to this, Dr. Connaughton was Chief Resident at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, a member of the National Living Donor Transplant Program and an ad hoc reviewer on a number of journals, including the American Journal of Transplantation, The New England Journal of Medicine and Kidney International.
Dr. Connaughton’s research interests focus on the genetic basis of chronic kidney disease. She has authored more than 24 published papers in the field of kidney disease and received funding from various international agencies.
Dr. Connaughton has been twice awarded first prize at the Vincent Dolan Medical Research Oral Presentation (2014-2015) at the Irish Nephrology Society meeting. She has also been awarded the Captain Harry Godfrey Massey Miles Medal (2008) and is the recipient of the National Maternity Hospital Medal (2007).
