Announcement: Dr. Sonja Reichert has been appointed as the Dr. Brian W. Gilbert Canada Research Chair

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Sonja Reichert has been appointed as the endowed Dr. Brian W. Gilbert Canada Research Chair, effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2024.

Dr. Reichert is an Assistant Professor and Director of the PGY3 Enhanced Skills Chronic Disease Management Program in the Department of Family Medicine, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. She also teaches and supervises students in the Department of Graduate Studies. Clinically, she practices at both the St. Joseph’s Primary Care Diabetes Support Program and the St. Joseph’s Family Medical Center.

Dr. Reichert completed a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology at the University of Waterloo, followed by a Master of Science degree at the Department of Exercise Sciences, University of Toronto. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University. Dr. Reichert completed her residency in family medicine at the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry in 2011.

Her current research interests include diabetes, obesity, health care delivery and the complexities of multi-morbidity as observed through the primary care lens.

Dr. Reichert was a contributor to the 2013 Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines. She has won multiple awards, including the Best Adjunct Non-Core Family Medicine Teacher Award from Western University and the CCFP Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article Award for co-authoring the article Impact of a quality improvement program on primary healthcare in Canada: A mixed-methods evaluation.
