Announcement: Dr. Lois Champion has been appointed as Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Lois Champion has been appointed as Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective from January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2024.

Dr. Champion completed her Doctor of Medicine at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. She completed residency training in Anesthesia and a fellowship in Critical Care with the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. She was faculty in the Department of Anesthesia at Queen’s University from 1986 – 1988. In 1989 Dr. Champion joined Schulich Medicine & Dentistry as an Assistant Professor for the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Anesthesia & Perioperative Medicine.

Dr. Champion has been a Program Director of Adult Critical Care at Schulich, a member of the Royal College On-Site Survey Team and a Deputy Registrar of the Medical Council of Canada.

The recipient of multiple teaching awards, Dr. Champion has been acknowledged with the Douglas Bocking Award and the Dean’s Award of Excellence in Teaching. She has been awarded a Clinical Science and a Basic Science Teaching Award from the Schulich Hippocratic Council. She has also received the Silcox-Fellows Mentorship Award and the Critical Care Western Mentorship Award. She is Honorary Class President for Schulich Meds 2021.

Dr. Champion has been Deputy Chair of the Internal Review Committee for Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) and participated as Chair or Faculty Representative in a number of PGME Internal Reviews. She has also been a Course Chair for many Schulich Undergraduate courses, including Epidemiology, Emergency Care and Legal-Ethical-Organizational Issues in Medicine. Dr. Champion currently teaches Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Cardiovascular Physiology for the first-year medicine course.

At the national level, Dr. Champion was part of the development team for the Acute Critical Events Simulation (ACES) course for Critical Care residents. She also developed the teaching material for the breathing section of the provincial education program for the Critical Care Response Team initiative.

Dr. Champion has been a member of many national and provincial societies and has served on many other Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, department and hospital committees.
