Congratulations to the 2015 Student Research Training Program (SRTP) award recipients

Four Schulich Medicine students have been recognized for their involvement in advancing health research through the Student Research Training Program (SRTP).

Dr. L DeWitt Wilcox Award
Jacob Matusivec, Medicine Class of 2017
“Ultra-High Field MRA Detection of Venocentric Lesions as a Biomarker of MS”
Supervisors: Maria Drangova, PhD, and Ravi Menon, PhD

This award is given to a student who has demonstrated initiative, drive, awareness of research and the ability to persevere in completing an SRTP project. This is the highest award given by SRTP and is intended to recognize the student's outstanding performance in research by permitting the student to present this research at the National Student Research Forum in Galveston, Texas.

Horace and Clarice Wankel Memorial Award for Cardiovascular Research
Alexander Levit, MD/PhD Class of 2020
“The role of hypertension in accelerating cognitive decline in a transgenic rat model of Alzheimer disease”

Awarded to a student demonstrating special interest in some area of research in cardiovascular diseases.

Awarded for demonstrated excellence in SRTP and showing promise in research.

The goal of the Summer Research Training Program (SRTP) is to encourage medical students to pursue their interests in medical research. SRTP enables first and second year medical students in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University to work under the supervision of a faculty member on a research project during the summer months, for two years.
